About RJ Wheaton

RJ Wheaton was raised in the UK and has lived in California, the Netherlands, and now Canada. He has a master's degree in historical research and another (yes, it was that kind of a career path) in critical theory. The latter required reading a great deal of post-structuralist theory, cursing an academic library system that had changed little in five centuries, and wondering if writing really had to be that obtuse. Then serendipity (and a particularly insightful professor) introduced him to William James, Richard Rorty, and Stanley Fish. And that was the end of that.He resides with his partner in Toronto, where he works for a major Canadian retailer, writes about music and books, and attempts to keep three small animals fed and healthy. He is also Senior Producer for PopMatters.com, the international magazine of cultural criticism. He is currently writing a volume on Portishead's Dummy for Continuum's 33 1/3 series. He believes in (1) the inherent goodness of humanity, (2) the notion that science and technology will save us if we tend to art, and (3) the restorative powers of a good plate of nachos.
